Section one of our program consists of a free 2 hour seminar that outlines the steps required to build a home.

The seminar covers the initial steps in planning, arranging financing and setting up a budget, discovering that actual cost of the structure by ‘bidding out’ the project and selecting sub-contractors. There is also a discussion of choosing to remodel an existing dwelling.

The seminar will highlight the need to gather as much knowledge regarding home building and contracting as one can.

The free seminar is a precursor to our 18+ hour training class plus several site visits. The need and benefits of attending the class will be stressed. Anyone considering having a new home built - or being an owner/builder, now or in the future, will be encouraged to attend the training.

The training class will encompass all the steps a general contractor experiences while building a home, such as:

  • The ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ of house construction
  • Meet many contractors, suppliers and manufactures
  • Construction financing and ‘cash draw’ management
  • Finding and selecting a lot to build on
  • Setting up a detailed ‘construction calendar and scheduling labor and materials the easy way
  • Murray Gula will discuss protecting your self from construction liens on your property
  • Dealing with vendors including ordering materials and supplies
  • Lot clearing and required inspections
  • Locating and contracting with qualified sub-contractors
  • Preparation and constructions of various foundations
  • Windows, doors, cabinets and appliances
  • Framing the structure and roofing choices
  • Rough and finished plumbing and required inspections
  • Rough and finished electrical and required inspections
  • External finishing, i,e, sidings and scheduling supplies and labor
  • Interior finishing including flooring and detailed trim work
  • Project completion including final inspection
